Incentives for conserving the environment
In 2003 we created Hacienda Santa Rita Private Ecological Reserve and since then have made various agreements and alliances with local landowners for the conservation of resources, offering economic incentives related to the attraction of tourism.
Learning to know and love our surroundings
With a firm principle of cultural respect, we listen to the ideas and initiatives of the local people and take their training needs on board. We believe that training is a key way of contributing to the sustainable development of the area and its inhabitants and try to act as a bridge, connecting local people with experts, organizations and other actors. All the training processes are participatory and inclusive.
Water resources and protecting water basins
Páramos are huge reservoirs of water that supply water basins. This is why it is so important to manage this fragile ecosystem properly. We have run several training programmes on water management in conjunction with Fundación Páramo since 2005, as well as reforestation programmes and projects with FONAG (Ecuadorian Fund for the Protection of Water).
“Limpio es Lindo” (Clean is Cool) is the name we gave to the campaign we have been working on since 2003, with training and problem solving related to waste management, involving local residents, landowners and local governments. Various of the targets we set in this campaign have already been achieved.
Ecotourism is an activity that brings together and redistributes the wealth it creates. We consider it important to offer training on the opportunities, services and quality standards in this field. We have shared experiences with community ecotourism companies, associations and universities from all over the country over our last seven years of operations.
