Projects 2010-2011

Images for Education

In this project we use art as a way of fighting poverty and solving the lack of educational equipment. Our aim is to raise $2,000 and all this money will go towards buying arts materials, which will be handed over to the primary school teachers. In return, the teachers have agreed to put on an art exhibition during the school year to display the work done by the children. This programme is being funded by a donation of postcards from the photographer, Mónica Andrade, which visitors can buy through Tierra del Volcán.

Donation and equipping of a science laboratory for Ana María Velasco Primary School (Guitig)

Here our goal is to build and equip a science laboratory for Ana María Velasco Mixed State School, located at 8 km. from the small town of Machachi, with 112 pupils and 10 teachers. It has very basic infrastructure but the teachers, parents and pupils are extremely proactive and want to make things better. The project aims to raise $8,000 during the 2010-2011 school year. We already have some donors keen to support this initiative but anyone else willing to help, either financially or through their manpower, would be greatly appreciated.

Reforestación para la Conservación con especies Nativas

To date, 400,000 species of native trees (polylepis, hoja blanca, puma maqui and others) have been planted for conservation purposes in Hacienda El Porvenir through agreements with NGOs and other organizations that support conservation. We give all our guests the opportunity to join in this project by adopting one or more trees and planting them.
By planting a tree, you can help to conserve the high Andean forests of Ecuador, protect the habitat of local wildlife and safeguard water sources through the run-off from native forests.
